Several of our less rewarding NPC's have had their drops buffed through extra item drops, bigger stacks of coin drops and an overall increase in droprates (affecting mostly non-rare items)! Please see the list below for the affected NPC's. A few of the more notable changes are also listed here.
NPC's that have become more profitable:
- King Black Dragon - is now one of the most rewarding NPC's in the game, at least as much so as the Chaos Elemental
- Venenatis - droprates have been lowered, but its hitpoints have been reduced to 255 (from 765), making it the most profitable wilderness NPC after KBD and the Chaos Elemental
- WildyWyrm - added several item & coin drops
- Tormented Demon - buffed a lot, also slightly increased rates on Dragon Claws & Dragon Platebody pieces
- Kree'arra & its minions - also slightly increased rates on Armadyl hilt, godsword shards and Armadyl armour, as this room was by far the least profitable in GWD
- Mithril dragon - mostly extra noted dragon bones. Also applies to Bronze, Iron & Steel Dragons
- Nomad - somewhat buffed, but not enough to be a very profitable PVM activity. I also haven't taken the value of the treasure key into account yet, so we'll re-evaluate this one later
- Frost Dragon
- Ice Strykewyrm
- Giant Mole
For a detailed overview of all NPC drops, please to refer to our
NPC drop list!
The following should now apply:
- NPC's in the wilderness are amongst the most profitable, especially the King Black Dragon and Chaos Elemental. Venenatis comes third place
- Nex is - on average - the most profitable NPC in the game, as it is one of the hardest to beat and requires quest completion. It is a tiny bit higher than the KBD and Chaos Ele
- After Nex, the Corporeal Beast and Frost Dragons are the best non-wilderness NPC's available to premium members
- Further down we have Ice Strykewyrms, Tormented Demons & Barrelchests as the most profitable non-wilderness NPC's to donators
- Next comes the Kraken, as it can only be killed while on a slayer task. Unlike many of the other listed NPC's, the Kraken's drops actually remained untouched
- Then you have the four God Wars Dungeon rooms, as they are some of the harder ones and require killcount to enter. Each of the four rooms is now almost equal profit-wise
- There's also the Elves on Crash Island, for which you need some progress in the Pest Invasion quest. Quite decent, even though the bows and shields are mostly alched
- The Kalphite Queen and Dagannoth Kings are some of the more interesting F2P NPC's outside the God Wars Dungeon after completion of some Wise Old Man Achievements - especially if you complete all achievements
- Without any quests or achievements, the Kalphite Queen, Dagannoth Kings, Thermonuclear Smoke Devil and Giant Mole should be about the same
- Last among the better earners are the dragons, especially the Mithril Dragons (then Steel, Iron, Bronze, Black etc.). The most notable improvement to most dragons is an increased amount of noted dragon bones
Sadly, I cannot say much about Barrows or Glacors, as I have not yet obtained any kill logs for these.
Who gets the loot for an NPC kill
As of now, the person who dealt the most damage to an NPC is no longer guaranteed its loot. Anyone who deals any damage to an NPC now has a chance at getting the loot for that kill. However, the one player who dealt most damage gets a bonus chance (equal to 50% of their damage) and will still get the loot most of the time.
This change will allow newer players to get at least a few drops when competing with others who have better gear, while still allowing those with the best gear to get most of the loot.
A few examples to illustrate:
NPC X has 50 hitpoints. Player A did 10 damage, player B did 40 damage. B did most damage, so gets counted as 40 + 40/2 = 60
A has 10/(10 + 60) = 10/70 = 14% chance to get the loot
B has 60/(10 + 60) = 60/70 = 86% chance to get the loot
NPC Y has 100 hitpoints. Player A did 20 damage, B did 40, C also did 40. In the case of a draw, either B or C is chosen at random as 'player with most damage'. The chosen one will then have his damage counted as 40 + 40/2 = 60
A has 20/(20 + 40 + 60) = 20/120 = 17% chance
B or C has 40/(20 + 40 + 60) = 40/120 = 33% chance
C or B has 60/(20 + 40 + 60) = 60/120 = 50% chance
Overall, A has 17% chance, while B and C both have 41.5% chance to get the loot
In further news:
- The droprates of General Graardor, the Corporeal Beast and the Thermonuclear Smoke Devil have been slightly increased (but not nearly as much as the ones listed above)
- Fixed the bug that would make you stop following another player when eating or switching gear
- You can no longer use the tele block spell inside the KBD cave, to stop the cave from being a death trap. Tele block still works near the ladder and everywhere else in the wilderness
- There is now a second lever in the KBD cave on the North wall, which takes you to the ladder with the spiders just like the South lever. Using the lever at the ladder will randomly teleport you to either the North or South side of the cave
- The chance to get a Clue Scroll drop from the King Black Dragon or Venenatis has been increased
- Fixed a typo in the code that caused the Bandos Kiteshield to not reduce any damage from Nex at all (the deflect effect did always work). Keep in mind that deflect will not deal any damage to Nex while she's under a protective spell, this is intended
- Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving a Hard or Elite clue scroll on PK kills (during a PK'ing weekend or if they are ranked #1 or #2 on the leaderboards) if they had an Easy or Medium scroll in their bank
- Fixed a bug that allowed players to despawn Glacytes by logging out, they will now properly respawn as soon as any damage is dealt to the Glacor
- The droprates of the Kalphite Queen have been lowered
- The droprates of the Elves on Crash Island have been slightly lowered
- The droprates of Commander Zilyana & its minions have been slightly lowered, including rare items, as this room was by far the most profitable
- The amount of Slayer Points you get for killing Bork has been increased by 50% (8 points for a regular kill, 150 points for your first Bork kill of the day)
- The Tormented Demons will now regularly switch their prayer, based on the type of damage they have received the most
- Incorrect ring and helmet drops have been removed from the Dagannoth Kings, so each king now only drops the ring(s) or helm(s) that represent their combat type. This also means the Dagannoth kings have become slightly less profitable
- The droprates on the set pieces from the Barrows Chest have been lowered, while the rates and amounts on other items in the chest have been increased. Tooth/loop half of a key, dragon med helm, chaos runes and up to 20M coins have also been added, so the rewards are somewhat more like OSRS
- The rewards interface for clue caskets has been added to the Barrows Chest! The icon isn't entirely accurate, but we simply don't have the interface in our client of the actual Barrows Chest
- A really minor change to Barrows has been made, as you now spawn in the tunnel's ladder room. The room is fixed (not chosen at random), all doors are open and there are no monsters in the tunnels yet, but we will gradually add the use of the tunnels in later updates, to make it a little more challenging but also more profitable (still need those kill logs, though)
- The Dharok's axe animation for the Smash attack style has been fixed, along with the combat interface, so it now shows the options of an axe rather than those of a sword
- The accuracy and max hit of the keris against kalphites (and the Kalphite Queen) have been slightly lowered
- Honor players can no longer use enchanted bolt special attacks against NPC's when outside the morph world
- Honor players can no longer block NPC's outside the morph world - the NPC's will walk through them as if they weren't there
- Ice Strykewyrms, Tormented Demons and the Barrelchests are now immune to both poison and venom
- Fixed the jail command for staff. As a player, you can now also use '::checkreason' (without arguments) to see all your current punishments, including the reason for a jail if you are currently jailed
- Using a command with the wrong parameters will now display the correct usage
