Solution for PKHonor Client crashing OS - BSOD
Posted: Fri Aug 13, 2021 7:17 pm
I wanted to detail my experience when first running PKHonor's clients.
Problem and symptoms of the issue:
After a short amount of time, my screen would flicker and freeze up. Monitor would go black, and PC would restart. A fatal crash occured, and sometimes I would catch a BSOD with stop code: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE.
This problem was unique to rsps's, as other games diddn't encounter this for me.
After reviewing this error, many things came up such as reinstalling drivers, all the way down to a bad video card or mobo. I reviewed the minidump with no real indicator of what causes this.
Setup:
Nvidia 3090
Ryzen 9 5900x
2 monitors, one with G-sync, one regular
Solution and cause:
My LG UltraGear had G-Sync enabled (For both windowed and full screen). Disabling this feature completely eliminates the crashing.
The issue is easily reproducible, and I wasn't able to find much about why this is occurring with G-sync!
Hope this helps someone in the future.
