With the anticipated release of the new client coming with Runelite, some new logos need to be added. Most notable are the background screen, the Runelite splash screen, and the desktop icon. To incentivize, we are hosting a competition that will be voted upon by the community. You can either make 1 specific, or you can make all three. It might be wise if you make all three, follow a consistent theme. Each specific image will have its own rewards. Only 1 submission per image per person

To participate, follow the format below and post a response to this thread only:

Code: Select all

Ingame name: [YOUR_INGAME_NAME]
Background image: [LINK_TO_BACKGROUND_IMAGE]
Runelite splash screen image: [LINK_TO_SPLASHSCREEN_IMAGE]
Desktop icon image: [DESKTOP_ICON_IMAGE]
Image dimensions:
Background screen: 765px*503px - (Can be animated, although I would provide a static image just incase)
Splash Screen: 200px*200px - (Can be animated, although I would provide a static image just incase, only shown for about 5 seconds so might not bee worth animating)
Desktop Icon: 100px*100px (static image only)

Rewards:

Login screen:
First place: Featured Image in the new client, 5000 Donator Credits
Second Place: 3500 Donator Credits
Third Place: 2000 Donator Credits

Splash screen
First Place: Featured Image in the new client, 2500 Donator Credits
Second Place: 2000 Donator Credits
Third Place: 1000 Donator Credits

Desktop Icon
First Place: Featured Image in the new client, 2500 Donator Credits
Second Place: 2000 Donator Credits
Third Place: 1000 Donator Credits

You have until we release the beta client to work and make submissions. There will be a week's notice before we close submissions. Then during the beta, we will hold the voting. The voting will close the week before we release the client live, and once again, there will be a week's notice before we do. When the news post for the new client goes live, I will announce the official winner, and the rewards will be distributed afterwards.

What areas in the background screen need to be mostly worked around? Like the login screen is dead center but how big?

I gave the dimensions in the main post, 765*503. You don't have to worry about the fire or the two statues that the fire comes out as we had to remove it due to tech reasons.

Are all of these static images? I assume desktop icon is. Can the Runelite Splash image be animated?

I doubt we can animate it. Would be cool, but the client engine doesn't support it afaik.

I do not currently know if we can add animated gifs although, if not I feel like I definitely could add support for it. Would be awesome to have an animated background on the login screen. Reminds me of when hd came to rs2 (around the same time Dungeoneering came out) Would make the log in screen that much cooler. Couple that with the login music that I can add, and our login screen would be leagues above the rest. One thing I'll add, just in case I can't figure out how to add support for animated background, provide a static image.

So the splash image that I am referring to is
Image
I'll repeat what I said for the background, if I can figure out how to animate it, then I am all for it. This one only shows for like 5-10 seconds max depending on how fast it takes to load up the plugins so you can decide if its worth animating or not.

The desktop icon will more then likely be static

Ignoring the size and the quick snapping, I took a random gif from Giphy to test it out, Converted the gif into multiple PNGs, and cycled through an array of images that were drawn onto the screen. The game is locked at 50 fps on the login screen, and the image is updated per frame, meaning it'll cycle through 50 images each second. Might want to keep that in mind when creating the images.

In other words, each game frame is 20 milliseconds. This is locked when not in-game, so we won't have any issue with the fps controller plugin

I'm really thankful for your hard work and all you do Brant. This new background and logo will be really neat to see. Thank you for doing this.

I think an animated Login BG would be sick, but I actually had a static one in mind haha. That said I am intrigued and maybe interested, to my understanding using a GIF would be the simplest way to go. 50 fps is going to be heavy, can't lie, that's adding a solid 20-40 mb of data for a 2-3 second loop at max quality. Happy to make it longer but we'd have to play around to make sure it's not too big... But with the right subtlety I agree that it could take our client to the next level. I'll make a static one first and see if there's time to explore animated options.

As for the splash image... that's what I was hoping to animate.
Hmm... a 200 x 200 px png on average would be about ~100 kb per image (just assuming Gaussian noise profile as a baseline), the loop would probably be quite simple (just some dynamic lighting effects with some form of the PkHonor logo, maybe an animation). Assuming we're not restricted to 50 fps, I could make something that goes at 20-30 fps for 5-10 seconds resulting in 10-30 MB of data. Say I restrict it to 5 seconds - could still look good without being overwhelming and keep us closer to 10-15 MB. A sprite map could work in this scenario as well given the size of the image. I'd also bring the size of the image down further in post processing, regardless of the route I take

@Rick not as quick as I used to be unfortunately, gimme time xd
