It is indeed, but I'm afraid that's a problem on your side rather than the server server is fine.
Perhaps a laggy/slow internet connection or firewall issues? Have you tried using the zipped client?

On the topic of not being able to connect...

...I can't use ANY of the downloadable clients, only the webclient. I can log in, but I just get black screened every time. The game recognises me as being logged in and others can interact with me, my screen just doesn't load. I can change the client theme (the colour; red, blue...), and that 'fixes' it, but gives me unusable lag. This has been an issue for over a year, even since the Hunter update.

I'm using a Macbook as well, but I'm not having any difficulty with any of the clients. Is your Java updated?

Yes. As I said, it happened only after the Hunter update. The webclient & everything else works fine.
